October 10 is World Dog Day

World Dog Day is celebrated every year on 10 October in honour of our four-legged friends. Dogs have accompanied us faithfully and reliably for generations - so it is wonderful to pay special attention to your own four-legged friend on this day and to realise how happy you can be with a dog by your side. Because as with so many things, in everyday life we sometimes forget the happiness we share, take the dog's joyful wagging tail when we come home for granted, maybe even get annoyed every now and then by another walk in cold, wet weather.

Why do we celebrate this day?

World Dog Day is about making us aware of how much we owe to our dogs and the important role they play for each and every one of us.

  • Dogs need our help: Many dogs are sitting in shelters or animal welfare organisations for various reasons, waiting to be allowed to move into a permanent home. In addition, these four-legged friends depend on us humans to exercise them according to their needs, to feed and care for them well, and to take them to the vet when they are sick.
  • Dogs help us: they give us comfort, protect us and can save lives when it matters. Cosy hours of cuddling at home are especially nice with a four-legged friend and ensure that we can calm down and leave the stress of everyday life behind us in no time at all.

Tips to celebrate World Dog Day

You might be wondering how you could make the day of honour extra nice for yourself and your four-legged friend, and what you can do to give something back to some of your pet's mates too.

We have a few suggestions below:

  1. Today your four-legged friend get the favourite treat... and maybe even a second one afterwards. Come on!
  2. Outside, autumn is approaching in leaps and bounds, so light the fire and snuggle up with Bello under a big blanket. If you like, read a book - aloud if you like, because your dog loves to hear your voice and will soon doze off peacefully next to you.
  3. Put on your hiking boots and off you go: Discover an area together with your four-legged friend that is new to both of you. Cross a stream, jump over tree trunks, ... - it's fun and sooo good for the bond.
  4. Sponsor a dog or donate a sum of money to a charitable organisation. This way you can support their valuable work for and with dogs.

Conclusion: Don't just take time for your furry friend today - as true feel-good managers, they often make everyday life easier for you. Give him a soothing massage more often or bake him delicious dog biscuits.
